The ALBEDO Telecom Net.Shark is a portable handheld Ethernet TAP and monitoring device designed for field testing and troubleshooting in utility and electrical substation environments. It can filter, capture, and forward Ethernet-based protocols including PTP, NTP, GOOSE, SV, and MMS, supporting applications based on IEC 61850. The self-contained platform integrates battery power, display, and keyboard operation, allowing engineers to connect the unit at network points where conventional test equipment may be difficult to deploy.

The Net.Shark provides optical and electrical SFP line interfaces with Ethernet operation up to 1 Gb/s, together with RJ45 mirror ports for traffic monitoring and analysis. It supports Tap & Filter and Filter operating modes, configurable traffic aggregation, up to 16 independent filters per test port, PCAP/PCAPNG capture with hardware timestamping, and NTP-based timestamp synchronization. The handheld platform supports VNC, SNMP, SSH, USB and SD-card file management, with up to 22 hours of operation in E1 mode or 10 hours in Ethernet mode using two battery packs.
